11th Grade American Literature
I have been blessed to have a job that I love. I have a Bachelor of Arts in English with a concentration in American Literature and a minor in History. I get to deal with the content that I'm most passionate about on a daily basis. I want to share my love of literature with you. I do not expect you to love to read, but I expect you to understand the importance of reading and understanding the English language in the historical context and the modern context. We start by reading American Indian literature and end with Modernist or Post Modernist literature. This is a survey course that is set up chronologically. We will read each and every day, and I will set up classroom leisure reading time for students to read a book of their choice for 30 minutes once a week.
Technology in the High School Classroom
Through much research and deliberation, I have decided to move toward a classroom environment that embraces technology to foster the growth of literacy skills in my students as long as students respect the rules that I have set forth for the use of technology in y classroom. I believe that technology can open endless doors for learning, but there are times when we must rely on more traditional methods.
Students will be using Google Classroom to submit all of their assignments in class, and they will watch some short instructional videos at home. Students will use this technology in lieu of the traditional paper and pencil in order to prepare them for the Georgia Milestones End of Course Assessments given to all 11th grade literature students at the end of the semester. On this test, they will be expected to use the computer well, and they will need typing skills that they may only thoroughly develop with practice.
Cell phones, tablets, computers, netbooks, etc., will only be allowed when I have written it into my lesson plans. If the use of such technology has not been written into my lesson plans, the school rules will apply. I also reserve the right to revoke technology privileges in my classroom when they have been abused or the rules have been violated.
